Boettcher Mansion Revisited
Located on the southeast corner of Logan and Eighth Avenue, the Boettcher Mansion has been residence to Colorado's sitting governors for more than 45 years and a cornerstone on the Denver landscape. Bequeathed to the State of Colorado in 1959 by Mrs. Claude Boettcher, the mansion has been a solid and dynamic testimony to the legacy of the state and our family.
Built in 1907, the mansion was originally owned by Alice Cheesman, widow of Denver business tycoon Walter Cheesman. Claude K. Boettcher purchased the home in 1923, and it remained a private residence of the family for 36 years.
Now, more than 45 years later, the Boettcher Foundation is playing a key part in retaining this Colorado landmark's beauty through a $1.25 million dollar grant. We encourage you to take a tour of the Governor's Residence at the Boettcher Mansion and enjoy with us its splendor and historic contents.

ABOUT THE BOETTCHER FOUNDATION

On December 22, 1937, Claude K. Boettcher and his father, Charles Boettcher, created the Boettcher Foundation as a private corporation for charitable and benevolent purposes. The citizens of Colorado and the institutions that serve them are the prime interests of the Boettcher Foundation and grants are exclusively distributed within the State of Colorado.
The establishment of the Boettcher Foundation fulfilled Claude Boettcher's desire to contribute to the people of Colorado and his native state. He once said, "My father and I have been successful in Colorado, and we owe everything to this state. I am firmly of the belief that I can't take it with me. But it's a hard task to give it wisely." In establishing the Boettcher Foundation, he aimed to fortify the state by distributing grants to philanthropic organizations.
The incorporators of the Foundation were Claude Boettcher, Charles Boettcher II, who served for many years as an officer and trustee, and James Quigg Newton, who served as both secretary and trustee. These three individuals constituted the Foundation's first Board of Trustees and granted the Foundation's first benefaction of $500 to St. Anne's Convalescent Home.
Claude and Charles Boettcher provided the majority of the original corpus of the Foundation, which was built upon by subsequent family members, including Mrs. Fanny Augusta Boettcher, Mrs. Edna C. Boettcher, Mrs. Ruth Boettcher Humphreys and Mrs. Mae Boettcher.
